In this workshop, students will learn how to paint buildings using a simplified grid method. Teresa recommends downloading the GridPainter app (look for the icon featuring the Mona Lisa with a grid overlay) or using a printed photo and drawing a grid by hand—guidance will be provided on both approaches.
While a ruler isn't required, students are welcome to bring one if it helps them achieve their desired proportions. The instructor typically works by eye and will demonstrate how to do the same.
Students may bring a photo of a favorite structure they’d like to paint or follow along with the subject chosen by the instructor. The session will cover key foundational steps: beginning with a wash, drawing the grid, creating a strong initial sketch, and finally, adding paint to bring the scene to life.

Teresa is a two time “Best In Show” winner and has had 3 paintings chosen by American Impressionist Society for their Small Works Exhibitions. Her painting of Bethesda Fountain Angel of the Waters was a First Place Winner of Daily Paintworks Art Contest as well as Honorable Mention in National Art Competition with the Plein Air Salon. Teresa is a member of the American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America, and Chestnut Group Painters. “When I view a scene I want to paint, I endeavor to give my impression of that scene on canvas and express with paint the beauty of what I see. My desire is to tell a story and express emotion with my brush. I am always mindful that I can never match God’s palette, but I do give my best impressionist effort.”
